Tally Software Services (TSS) is the annual service plan for TallyPrime. It adds updates, compliance changes, connected services, remote access, and support on top of your lifetime license. No UAE regulation requires it, and Tally still runs without it. But UAE VAT e-filing and e-invoicing features arrive through new releases, so an active TSS is the practical choice for most VAT-registered businesses.

It is a fair question, and many UAE business owners ask it. Some assume TSS is a legal requirement. Others treat it as an optional extra they can ignore.
The truth sits somewhere in between. This guide explains what Tally Software Services (TSS) is and how it differs from your license. It also answers whether you must have it. You will get a full list of what TSS includes, what stops working if it lapses, and how to check your own status.

What Is Tally Software Services (TSS)?
Tally Software Services (TSS) is the annual subscription service for TallyPrime. It gives you product updates, statutory changes, connected services, remote access, and support. Your license lets you use the software, while TSS keeps it current, connected, and compliant with changing rules.
Think of TallyPrime as the engine and TSS as the servicing plan. The engine runs fine on its own. But tax rules change, and the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) adds new requirements. TSS is how those changes reach your software. Tally describes TSS as a bundle of services that brings the latest technology and statutory developments into TallyPrime.
Each TSS period lasts 12 months. Every new TallyPrime license also comes with a free year of TSS, so you start covered.
TSS vs Your Tally License: What Is the Difference?
Your TallyPrime license is a one-time purchase, and it stays valid for life. TSS is separate. It runs on a yearly cycle and needs renewing to stay active.

Many owners mix the two up. They see the license working and assume everything is fine. Meanwhile, the TSS may have expired months ago, and newer releases are out of reach.

Is TSS Mandatory for UAE Businesses?
No. No UAE regulation requires TSS, and Tally keeps running if it expires. But TSS is the way new compliance features reach your software. For VAT-registered businesses facing e-invoicing, an active TSS is the practical requirement, even though it is not a legal one.
The FTA requires in-scope businesses to issue e-invoices through an accredited service provider (ASP) using the Peppol format. It does not tell you which accounting software to use. It also does not name any software subscription. Your legal duty is to comply, and TSS is one way to get the tools to do that inside TallyPrime.

What Does TSS Include? A Complete List
TSS includes free TallyPrime upgrades, statutory and compliance updates, UAE VAT e-filing and e-invoicing tools, banking and payment services, remote access through Tally.NET, branch data sync, TallyDrive cloud backup, and technical support. Here is what each one does for a UAE business.
Product updates and free upgrades
Tally releases new versions several times a year. With a valid TSS, you can move to the latest release without buying a new license. Your company data and customizations carry over during the upgrade.
Statutory and compliance updates
UAE rules change. VAT return formats, reporting fields, and invoice requirements all evolve. TSS delivers these changes into TallyPrime so your reports and returns match current rules. For many accountants, this is the top reason to keep TSS active.
UAE VAT e-filing and e-invoicing
TallyPrime 7.1 improved UAE VAT e-filing. You can upload and download your VAT 201 return from the All VAT Options menu. It also added a built-in e-invoicing workflow for the FTA’s Peppol network, using the PINT AE format.

Banking and payment services
TSS supports banking tools such as importing bank statements and matching them to your books. This saves hours of manual reconciliation each month. Which bank connections apply can vary, so ask your Tally partner about your specific bank.
Remote access and branch data sync
Tally.NET lets you open your company data from another location. Data synchronization can also keep your head office and branch records aligned. Tally states that your data stays with you while you use these services.

TallyDrive cloud backup
TallyDrive backs up your company data to the cloud. A stolen laptop or a failed server then does not wipe out your books. A starter storage allowance comes with TSS, and you can add more space if needed.
Adoption is still low. Figures shared at a Tally partner event in the UAE showed that only 39% of TallyPrime 7.0 users had adopted it. That leaves many businesses without cloud backup.
Technical support and security
An active TSS gives you access to technical support and to the security improvements shipped with updates. Outdated software misses security patches. That raises the risk for your financial data, so this benefit is easy to overlook until you need it.
What Still Works and What Stops if TSS Expires?
Your Tally does not switch off. Tally confirms you can keep using it as before. What you lose is the service layer around it.

The risk grows over time. Every month without updates widens the gap between your software and the rules. A long gap can take more effort to fix than staying current would have.

How Do I Check My TSS Status?
Open TallyPrime and look at the Information Panel on the right. Find the License & Services block, which shows your TSS expiry date. The date turns red about 15 days before it ends, so you get a warning before it lapses.
Follow these steps:
- Open TallyPrime and load any company.
- Look at the Information Panel on the right side of the screen.
- Find the License & Services block, or Tally.NET Account Details in some versions.
- Read the TSS expiry date shown there.
You can also find the validity period on your invoice or license email from your Tally partner. Menu names can vary by version. If you cannot find the date, ask your partner to check it for you.
Who Should Keep TSS Active?
Most VAT-registered businesses should keep TSS active. The e-invoicing rollout is the main reason. It is phased by revenue, and both phases depend on software that stays up to date.
- Revenue of AED 50 million or more: appoint an ASP by 30 October 2026 and go live on 1 January 2027, after the Ministry of Finance extended the appointment deadline.
- All other in-scope businesses: appoint an ASP by 31 March 2027 and go live on 1 July 2027, according to ClearTax’s UAE e-invoicing guide.

Multi-branch firms benefit from data sync. Owners who work with outside accountants benefit from remote access. Very small businesses with simple, offline needs may not feel a lapse right away. Even so, the e-invoicing rollout is broad, so check which phase applies to you before you decide.

Does TSS include cloud backup?
TSS is linked to TallyDrive, Tally’s cloud backup service. A starter storage allowance comes with it, and extra space can be added. You still need to switch it on and set up your backups.
